[Prompt: Describe your leadership style. What skills do you need to develop to become a more effective leader?]

I believe that two qualities in particular characterize my leadership style: the ability to establish a clear vision and the ability to set an example. Establishing a clear vision up front allows me to convey a sense of purpose and responsibility to every member of my team. A clear vision also provides a roadmap for setting goals and developing action plans. As each action plan is implemented and each goal is accomplished, project milestones are reached and overall progress is observed. The impression of progress -- as well as evidence thereof -- is key to maintaining a motivated and productive team.

Once a clear vision has been established, I seek to set an example for my colleagues. Specifically, I work to gain the respect of my team through action. People are more apt to mobilize after they have observed another person in action. When team members realize that I am willing to put in the effort, they feel compelled to act accordingly. In addition, they become more responsive to my leadership and more confident in their own work.

In order to become a more effective leader, I need to improve my skills in both management and organization. The proper management of resources can make or break a project operating under a tight financial or personnel budget, while efficient organization promotes resource management. A leader who understands organizational philosophy will be a successful resource manager. Since my primary role has traditionally been a resource rather than a manager of resources, I have had few opportunities to practice these skills. These skills will become a necessity as I step into positions of increasing managerial responsibility and organizational leadership.

我相信有兩個(gè)特質(zhì)特別能體現(xiàn)我的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)風(fēng)格特點(diǎn):選擇一個(gè)恰當(dāng)?shù)囊暯?,做出一個(gè)表率。建立一個(gè)清晰的視角,不僅能夠幫助我在給團(tuán)隊(duì)成員傳達(dá)信息的時(shí)候能夠更有目的和責(zé)任性,更可以提供目標(biāo)的實(shí)現(xiàn)和行動(dòng)的發(fā)展計(jì)劃提供一個(gè)行動(dòng)指南。在每一個(gè)行動(dòng)計(jì)劃都被執(zhí)行和每一個(gè)目標(biāo)都實(shí)現(xiàn)的情況下,那么這個(gè)項(xiàng)目就告一段落了,對整個(gè)過程也應(yīng)該有一個(gè)評價(jià)。整個(gè)項(xiàng)目的印象就像是它的證據(jù)一樣,是擁有一個(gè)激情的有效的團(tuán)隊(duì)的關(guān)鍵。

一旦建立了一個(gè)比較清晰的視角,我就會(huì)試著給我的隊(duì)友們做出一個(gè)榜樣。很特別的,我通過行動(dòng)來贏得團(tuán)隊(duì)的尊敬。在看了別人的表現(xiàn)之后大多數(shù)人都傾向于模仿。當(dāng)我的團(tuán)隊(duì)看到我的努力之后,他們也會(huì)做出同樣的反應(yīng)。另外,他們開始更好的響應(yīng)我的領(lǐng)導(dǎo),而對于他們自己的工作也更自信了。

為了成為更出色的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人,我希望在管理和策劃方面加強(qiáng)我的能力。在基金緊張或者人事匱乏的情況下是否能對資源有一個(gè)恰當(dāng)?shù)墓芾砜梢詻Q定一個(gè)項(xiàng)目的成功或者失敗。一個(gè)懂得組織哲學(xué)的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者將會(huì)是一個(gè)成功的資源管理者。但是由于一直以來我擔(dān)當(dāng)?shù)慕巧琴Y源而不是資源管理者,我很少有機(jī)會(huì)來鍛煉這方面的能力。在今后逐步踏入管理責(zé)任和組織領(lǐng)導(dǎo)的職位過程中,這些技能都是必不可少的。
